Felt breakfast sets

Two weeks ago I bought a square metre of handmade felt at www.bloomingfelt.co.uk . I didn't really know what to use it for but I love felt and I couldn't resist buying it. And then I saw gorgeous felt table runners and so I came up with the idea to make breakfast sets. It's a nice thick quality and I cut little animals from the felt with the help of IKEA cookie cutters for decoration. So now we have a little forrest on our breakfast table.

I have been sewing again...

for the living room!

I made a new cushion cover for the sofa because I wanted to give the room a more neutral look. So therefore I used white fabric for the sofa cover and I also made white velvet drapes. I like the overall outcome. Now I can use the paintings to change the colour accents.

I bought the leather...

... for my first sewing project. It's pink and sand and I hope it will give a very nice Celine inspired tote bag!

Why DIY?

Have you ever asked yourself why you like DIY? If you like it that is...
I came across this question lately after reading this book:

Is DIY the new political movement? For my part I just like the feeling of holding my finished project in my hands. It such a joy. And if something turns out really good then I get into a happy mood whenever I use it. It makes me feel proud. Sometimes I make stuff myself because I don't want to spend lots of money but I still want nice stuff. And when you make stuff yourself it's all in your hands how high the quality of the end produce will be. O.K. some stuff can't be made properly without the right machines. So you need to compromise sometimes. But the most important part is that it should be fun! As soon as you have to make stuff out of a need it loses the magic.

New year's resolutions

I am a big fan of Celine fashion. But I can't really afford it. Therefore my dream is to be able to sew some of their pieces myself. So this is my New Year's resolution. I want to sew one piece every month over the next twelve months. Maybe I can build a basic wardrobe like that. Since I am also a big fan of simple sewing I will try to keep it as simple as possible.

For January this two colour tote bag will be my first project:

I have been eying this bag for a long time now. So why not give it a try. I found out that sewing leather is really easy and the style also looks pretty simple.

Happy 2012!

Happy New Year to you!

We had a very relaxed start into the new year. After putting the little one to bed hubby and me had fondue. At half past ten we sat down to write our wishes for the new year on paper scraps. We usually hang them from a tree or a nice ribbon and at the end of the year we open them up again. It's very funny sometimes to see what you wished for (everything is allowed) and even more amazing to see which ones came true. You'll be surprised!
At midnight we went upstairs to the roof top and watched the fireworks. And the little one decided to sleep in until 9:30 today... what more can you wish for?
